Full Description

Silage compaction is not a process step that tolerates compromise. The density achieved during the filling and rolling phase of silage clamp management determines the oxygen exclusion that prevents aerobic spoilage, the dry matter preservation that protects feed quality across the storage period, and ultimately the nutritional value of the forage that drives the milk production and livestock performance the entire harvest is designed to support. Every percentage point of additional compaction density translates directly into improved fermentation quality, reduced dry matter loss, and the feeding value that makes the difference between a productive winter and a costly one. The SAPHIR SiloRex is engineered to maximise that density in every pass, across every configuration, at any clamp geometry.

Contact Pressure: The Compaction Advantage
The most fundamental determinant of compaction performance in a silage roller is contact pressure; the force applied per unit of contact area between the roller surface and the forage. Higher contact pressure produces greater fibre disruption, more effective air exclusion, and higher bulk density in the compacted silage mass. The SiloRex achieves 17.19 kg/cm² contact pressure, a figure that places it among the highest available in the professional silage roller market, and one that can be contextualised by comparison with the 0.97 kg/cm² generated by a standard tractor tyre (600/65 R 38 at 1.5 bar). The SiloRex applies more than seventeen times the contact pressure per unit area than the tractor tyre pressing the forage during clamp filling, and that differential translates directly into compaction density that tractor-tyre rolling alone cannot achieve. This contact pressure advantage is delivered through the combination of the roller’s engineered geometry, the water-fillable ballasting system, and the optional additional weight package. The water-fillable frame and roller body provide the base weight that generates high static contact pressure, while the optional 455 kg additional weight package allows operators to maximise total roller weight and therefore contact pressure, when forage conditions, crop moisture content, or clamp geometry demand maximum compaction performance.

SMARTPULL: Safety Engineering at the Hitch
The connection between the silage roller and the towing tractor during clamp operations is one of the highest-risk mechanical interfaces in forage harvesting work. Load peaks generated by uneven clamp surfaces, abrupt directional changes, and the dynamic forces of heavy roller operation transmit through the hitch as sudden jerk forces, creating operator injury risk, mechanical stress on the towing vehicle, and the operational discomfort that reduces precision and productivity during long compaction sessions.
The SMARTPULL system, currently patent-pending and submitted for the DLG Innovation Award, addresses this risk through a dual spring assembly that dampens load peaks at the lifting device. Rather than transmitting peak forces directly through the hitch connection, the SMARTPULL absorbs and distributes those forces through the spring assemblies, converting potentially dangerous jerk loads into smooth, controlled connection behaviour. The result is measurably improved operator safety, reduced mechanical stress on the towing vehicle, and smoother operational control during the constant directional changes and surface variation of active silage clamp work.

Lateral Shift: Full Coverage, Any Configuration
The 640mm lateral shift available on both sides of the SiloRex 30H is an operational specification that directly determines the coverage efficiency achievable per pass across a silage clamp. A large lateral shift range allows the operator to reposition the roller relative to the tractor’s travel path without repositioning the tractor covering clamp edges, managing transitions between passes, and accessing the full clamp width more efficiently than systems with limited lateral adjustment. The SiloRex maintains its full 640mm bilateral lateral shift regardless of which accessory options are fitted: hydraulic towing device, edge compactors, and hydraulic shifting can be combined in any configuration without reducing the lateral displacement range that efficient coverage requires.

Modular Accessory Configuration
The SiloRex’s accessory system is designed for free combination, any accessory can be specified alongside any other without creating configuration constraints or performance compromises. Hydraulic towing device, bilateral hydraulic shifting, and edge compactors mounted on both sides can be combined in any combination that matches the operational requirements of the farmer or contractor. Edge compactors address the compaction quality at clamp walls and edges, the locations where conventional roller geometry achieves less effective contact and where aerobic spoilage most commonly initiates. The hydraulic systems provide the control precision and operational convenience that high-productivity silage operations require.

The SW Series Legacy and the SiloRex Advance
The SiloRex is not a reinvention; it is a disciplined advancement of a platform that has already demonstrated its reliability. The SW series silage rollers have proven themselves across European dairy and beef farming operations and agricultural contractors for more than a decade, accumulating the operational hours, the challenging conditions, and the diverse user feedback that defines genuinely proven agricultural equipment. The SiloRex retains the engineering foundations of that proven platform while advancing its configuration flexibility, ballasting capability, safety engineering, and accessory integration, delivering the performance improvements that user experience and technical development have identified, without abandoning the reliability that a decade of field validation has established.

SILORAPTOR

SILORAPTOR

Distribute silage on the silage heap.

The SILO RAPTOR is used to distribute silage on the silage heap. The main area of application of the machine is in grass arvesting. The large drum blade with a diameter of 1,230 mm with bolted spreading tools each at a height of 150 mm ensures powerful distribution of the silage. Due to the special arrangement of the spreading tools on the drum, the distribution on the silo is particularly uniform. With the hydraulic swivelling of 20° on both sides, the silage can also be optimally deposited at the edge of the heap. The robust design with its high dead weight also ensures a high level of smooth running of the machine when in use. The original Walterscheid cam clutch installed as standard in front of the transmission also serves as a overload protection for the toughest requirements. In addition, outwardly positioned lubrication points, large maintenance openings and well thought-out accessories for smooth operation of the machine.
