INLINE MACERATORS IM3, IM5, IM10

How to achieve uninterrupted pipeline flow and total operational peace of mind – critical to a seamless operation.

The EYS Inline Macerator is a high-performance fragmentation and separation system engineered for continuous, uninterrupted operation in demanding pipeline environments — including biogas plants, sewage treatment facilities, and agricultural processing systems. Where pipeline blockages, downstream mechanical failure, and system downtime represent critical operational risks, the EYS Inline Macerator provides a proven, single-unit solution.

The EYS Inline Macerator combines foreign object separation and fibrous matter maceration in a single inline unit. Heavy objects settle by gravity into an integrated stone trap while floating fibrous substrates are simultaneously transported to the self-sharpening cutting screen and macerated. An automatic reverse function detects and clears blockages without manual intervention, keeping cutting edges sharp and performance optimal. Manufactured entirely from AISI 304 stainless steel, it delivers the durability and low maintenance demanded by biogas, sewage, and agricultural operations.

Full Description

The integrity of any manure management, biogas, or sewage treatment pipeline system depends on what enters it. Coarse solids, fibrous matter, stones, metal fragments, and the wide range of foreign objects that livestock manure and agricultural waste streams inevitably contain are the primary cause of pump damage, separator failure, pipeline blockage, and the unplanned downtime that each of those failure events generates. The cost of that downtime in lost production, repair expenditure, and the operational disruption that cascades through the system compounding rapidly across the service life of inadequately protected infrastructure. The EYS Inline Macerator is the protection that prevents those costs from occurring.

The Combined Separation and Maceration Principle
The EYS Inline Macerator addresses the two distinct categories of problematic material in manure and waste streams through two simultaneous and complementary mechanisms. Heavy, dense foreign objects: stones, metal parts, grit, and similar inorganic debris that cannot be macerated and must be removed from the flow. The EYS system removes them by gravity: as the fluid flows through the macerator body, dense objects settle to the base of the unit, which functions as an integrated stone trap. They accumulate there without interrupting flow and are removed periodically through the cleaning flange, a straightforward maintenance task that requires no system shutdown or disassembly. Floating and suspended matter; fibrous material, straw, grass, wood fragments, and the organic solids that characterise livestock manure presents a different challenge. These materials are transported by the flow to the cutting screen, where self-sharpening cutting blades reduce them to particle sizes of 4–38mm depending on model specification. The macerated material is simultaneously homogenised during the cutting process, producing a consistently flowable medium that moves through downstream pipework with reduced resistance and reduced pump power requirement. The combination of separation and maceration in a single inline unit eliminates the need for separate protection components upstream and downstream of the maceration point.

Self-Sharpening Blades and Automatic Reverse: The Uptime Mechanisms
Two engineering features define the EYS Inline Macerator’s operational uptime advantage over competing systems. The first is the self-sharpening cutting blade design, blades that maintain their cutting edge through the sharpening action of normal operation, reducing the performance degradation between service intervals that fixed-edge blades experience. When blades do wear over their extended service life, the blade mechanism position is adjustable, allowing the cutting geometry to be recalibrated and the remaining blade material to be fully utilised before replacement is required. Blade service life is maximised, replacement frequency is minimised, and cutting performance is sustained at optimal levels throughout.
The second is the automatic reverse function, an intelligent operational feature that fundamentally changes the system’s response to blockage events. When the blade rotor encounters contact resistance from a hard or particularly coarse material, the system automatically detects the blockage condition and reverses the rotational direction of the blade rotor. The material is attacked from the opposite cutting angle. If the material resists, the process repeats, alternating cutting direction until the material is macerated or until the system determines that the object is non-macerable and should be settled to the stone trap. The automatic reverse function also maintains blade and screen cutting edge sharpness by distributing wear across both sides of the cutting geometry, providing an additional service life benefit alongside its primary blockage prevention function.

Reversible Cutter Screen: Extended Wear Component Life
The reversible cutter screen is usable on both sides before replacement, this directly addresses the consumable cost that represents a significant proportion of the total operating cost of maceration equipment across its service life. By doubling the usable life of this critical wear component, EYS reduces replacement frequency, reduces consumable expenditure, and reduces the maintenance intervention frequency associated with screen replacement. The practical consequence across the operational life of the system is a measurably lower total cost of ownership than single-sided screen alternatives deliver.

Maintenance Design and Operational Accessibility
The EYS Inline Macerator is designed from the outset for low-maintenance operation and rapid service access. All wear parts: cutting blades, cutter screen, and associated components are readily accessible without major disassembly. Blade replacement and adjustment are achievable in minimal steps by standard maintenance personnel without specialist tooling. The cleaning flange provides direct access to the stone trap for routine foreign object removal. The result is a system that can be maintained quickly, returned to service rapidly, and operated with the confidence that service requirements will not generate extended downtime or specialist maintenance cost.

Three-Model Range and System Integration
The IM3, IM5, and IM10 model range covers flow rates from 180 m³/h to 600 m³/h, providing the selection flexibility to match macerator capacity precisely to the throughput requirements of any agricultural, biogas, or sewage treatment application. The system works most effectively when positioned upstream of self-priming pumps: with the macerator inline before the pump, foreign objects in the pit cannot reach and damage the pump, the separator, or any other downstream component. This positioning principle transforms the inline macerator from a processing component into the primary protection infrastructure for the entire downstream system and the investment it represents.
