EASY BRUSH-2

The Dual Brush Advantage: Coverage that a single-brush system cannot achieve.

The SCHURR Easy Brush 2 System is an automated electronic, horizontal and vertical brush combination delivering comprehensive full-body grooming suitable for pigs. SCHURR Brushes have been proven thousands of times over and are used worldwide. For more than 33 years, it has been distinguished by unsurpassed quality and durability, this has been confirmed by farmers in the TopAgrar survey on automated animal brushes, where SCHURR achieved the best result.

A well-groomed animal is a productive animal. The SCHURR Easy Brush Two-Brush System combines a horizontal upper brush and vertical lower brush into a single wall-mounted automatic grooming system that covers the back, flanks, abdomen, and chest comprehensively, the body zones that conventional single-brush systems miss. Animal-activated operation, 250mm mechanical height combined with radial compensation protecting animal and brushes, IP54 weather-resistant construction, and a power-saving PM motor make this the most complete, durable, and energy-efficient automatic grooming system available for pigs and select zoo species.

Full Description

Grooming is not a secondary welfare consideration in livestock management, it is a primary physiological requirement with direct production consequences. Cattle, goats, and pigs are hardwired to seek body contact for cleaning, parasite removal, and skin stimulation. When that need is consistently met, the measurable outcomes are improved circulation, better thermoregulation, reduced cortisol load, more settled behaviour, and the milk production and weight gain improvements that follow from animals in genuine good health rather than merely managed health. The SCHURR Easy Brush Two-Brush System is engineered to meet that need completely, across the full body, for every animal in the facility, across the full day, without operator involvement.

The Two-Brush Advantage: Coverage That Single-Brush Systems Cannot Achieve
The defining engineering distinction of the Easy Brush system is its dual-brush configuration. The upper horizontal brush addresses the back, withers, and upper flanks, the body areas that cattle and large livestock most actively seek to groom against fixed surfaces and where skin condition, parasite accumulation, and circulation stimulation have the most direct production relevance. The lower vertical brush simultaneously covers the lower flanks, abdomen, and chest, the body areas that single-brush systems mounted at standard height simply cannot reach effectively.
This comprehensive coverage is not a cosmetic advantage. The lower body zones that conventional single brushes miss are the areas where skin condition deteriorates most rapidly in housed livestock, where external parasite populations establish most persistently, and where the physical contact that reduces stress hormones and promotes settled behaviour is most difficult for animals to achieve naturally against barn infrastructure. The Easy Brush’s dual-brush architecture eliminates those coverage gaps in a single installation, at a single mounting point, with a single power connection.

Animal-Activated Operation: Demand-Led Grooming
The Easy Brush operates entirely on animal demand. The system activates when brush contact is made, no timer, no schedule, no operator intervention required. It runs continuously while animals are engaged with the brush assembly and shuts down automatically after approximately 20 seconds of inactivity. This demand-led operation means the system is available at all times of day and night, responds immediately when animals seek grooming contact, and consumes no energy when animals are not using it. The result is a grooming service that matches animal behaviour patterns rather than imposing a fixed operational schedule on the herd, the biological correct approach to providing a natural behaviour outlet in a housed livestock environment.

Power-Saving Engineering: The Easy Brush PM Motor
The Easy Brush model specification introduces a Permanent Magnet motor that reduces power consumption to approximately 0.17 kW, a significant reduction from the standard B00 motor’s 0.28 kW, and a difference that compounds meaningfully across the cumulative operating hours of a brush system. In operations where energy cost is managed alongside production cost, the Easy Brush motor specification represents a long-term operational saving that the higher capital cost of the PM motor recovers across the installation’s service life. The PM motor delivers equivalent grooming performance to the standard motor, the energy efficiency improvement does not compromise the brush speed or torque that effective grooming requires.

Mechanical Height and Radial Compensation: Adaptive Grooming Geometry
The 220mm mechanical height compensation built into the Easy Brush mounting assembly allows the brush system to adapt vertically to the range of animal heights present within a herd. In dairy herds where individual animals may vary by 100–200mm in back height from the smallest to the tallest cow, fixed-height brush mounting would compromise grooming contact quality at the extremes of the size range. The Easy Brush’s height and radial compensation mechanism absorbs that variation mechanically, maintaining effective grooming contact geometry for animals across the full height range without requiring mounting height adjustment between animals. For mixed-breed facilities or zoo applications where species size variation is greater, this compensation capability is operationally essential.

Multi-Species Versatility
The Easy Brush dual-brush configuration and demand-activation principle is effective for pigs, where the grooming need and the welfare and production benefits of meeting it are directly analogous. Pig applications benefit from the lower body coverage that the vertical brush provides in the belly and flank zones where pigs most actively seek rubbing contact. Select zoo species where animal welfare standards increasingly require the provision of environmental enrichment and natural behaviour outlets benefit from the adjustable mounting height and durable construction that professional livestock brush engineering provides.

Construction and Maintenance Design
The Easy Brush’s IP54 protection class and option with the Schurr motor and control cover make it suitable for outdoor use, ideal the environmental demands of working livestock installations. Barn environments expose equipment to continuous ammonia, dust, moisture, and the mechanical contact of large animals at the installation point. IP54 protection at this exposure level maintains the electronics and motor integrity that the system’s demand-activation operation depends on across years of continuous deployment.
Maintenance is straightforward by design. Cone-head grease nipples are directly accessible, the upper swing arm accessible from above, the lower from below, for rapid lubrication with a standard grease gun using acid-free machine grease. Gearbox oil level is checked at the breather screw and maintained with 85W90 gear oil. Brush replacement is a four-step process: remove the fastening screw and clamping ring, pull brushes from the shaft, fit new brushes, and reassemble. No specialist tools. No extended downtime. The operational continuity of the grooming service is maintained with the minimum of maintenance investment across the installation’s service life.

Installation and Mounting
The Easy Brush mounts to wall, post, or stand structures using standard M12 fasteners, heavy-duty dowels for concrete, threaded rods for masonry and wood, round or square tube for steel structures. Fastening material is available from SCHURR on request. Mounting height h1 is specified for each breed category, average animal height plus 10cm ensuring the dual-brush assembly is positioned for optimal grooming contact across the herd from the first day of operation. The 1,150mm operating radius requires clear floor space to allow unrestricted animal access and natural engagement with the brush assembly.
